Government of Sint Maarten
About
The Government of Sint Maarten is the public administration of the country of Sint Maarten, a constituent country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. With close to 1,500 civil servants across its ministries, it is the largest employer on the island. The ministries are General Affairs; Finance; Justice; Education, Culture, Youth and Sport; Public Health, Social Development and Labor; Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunication; and Public Housing, Spatial Planning, Environment and Infrastructure. Together they run the services residents and businesses rely on every day: the civil registry, the tax administration, public health, social services, labor affairs, facilities, legislation and personnel and organization. Vacancies are open to candidates who want to contribute to the development of Sint Maarten, including professionals from the diaspora who are considering a return. Several positions state a preference for candidates with direct ties to Sint Maarten; some are open to Dutch nationals only. The details are in each vacancy. The Government Administration Building is located at Soualiga Road #1, Pond Island, Great Bay, and is open Monday to Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Company Culture
Working for the Government of Sint Maarten means working for the country itself. Every ministry is in a phase of continuous development, and the work environment is dynamic with high expectations at all times. Integrity, reliability, customer focus and quality of service are central in every role. Most positions ask for fluency in Dutch and English, both spoken and written, because legislation and administration are in Dutch while daily contact with residents is largely in English. Knowledge of Spanish or French is an advantage in public-facing roles. Salaries are set within the civil service salary scales in Caribbean guilders (Cg) and depend on education and relevant experience. The benefits package includes vacation, a pension and medical coverage.
